My Philosophy of Therapy
As a therapist, I have always considered it a privilege to walk with my clients in a journey that leads to greater self-understanding, increased joy, and more effective living. I believe that my job is to construct conversations that shed light on the patterns that maintain problems and to open new avenues for exploration. I believe strongly in the mind-body connection, and have helped many clients move toward practices which create more balance and reduce stress in daily living.
I employ a variety of theoretical perspectives in my work, using what seems to best fit the needs of any individual client. However, I would say that I am most often drawn to cognitive-behavioral and family systems frameworks. This means that I help clients examine how their thoughts influence feelings and behavior, while also working with the interactional family and relationship patterns that form the background of problems that clients present. I am trained in goal-oriented and solution-focused therapy, as well.
I have a general practice and work with a wide variety of issues. My individual adult specialty areas include depression, anxiety, stress management, and women’s issues. I do structured groups with depressed women. I have significant experience working with couples and families.
I also work with older children and adolescents. My extensive experience in working with children, teens, and families includes school-based and clinical settings, as well as private practice.
I am licensed in Maryland as a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I also hold a Clinical Membership in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I have twenty years of clinical experience.
